| Cut a circle the size of the bottle out of the center of the cake. Wrap the bottle in clear plastic wrap, and insert it. Use tip No. 8 and white icing to pipe a shell border around the bottle. Use the same tip to pipe a scalloped bottom border and a triple loop top border. |
| To create the pink elephants, use tip No. 8 to pipe a large teardrop to form the body. Pipe a small bubble, ending with an s-curve at the small end of the teardrop body for the head and trunk. Press the tip back against the body to start the elephant’s legs. End the stroke with the same pressing motion to create the flat feet. Or, you can use a spatula to flatten the feet. |
| Pipe several elephants in various positions on top of the cake. Stripe a bag with a small amount of white icing, and fill it with pink. Position a No. 104 rose tip, so the white icing forms the ear’s interior. Create the rippled ears by using a curving motion as you pipe. |
| Use a cut paper tube to add white toenails and eyes. With black icing and a cut paper tube, add details to the eyes, and pipe “wrinkles” in the feet and legs. |
| On the side of the cake, pipe the tail end of an elephant. Use tip No. 8 to pipe a bubble of icing for the rump, and add two legs. Use a cut paper tube to add white toenails and a tail. |
| On the opposite side of the cake, pipe a large bubble ending in an s-curve to create the elephant’s head. Add ears using rose tip No. 104. Use cut paper tubes to add the black and white accents. You do not need to add the two front legs. |
| Use a cut paper tube to pipe black champagne and cocktail glasses on the side of the cake as well as bubbles. Pipe red cherries in the glasses to add some color. Pipe “Happy New Year” in red icing with a cut paper tube. Use a ripple motion as you pipe the lettering to add some character. |
| Outline the bottom border with red icing. Add black hats to the elephants and a plastic champagne glass. Pipe strings of multi-colored confetti using cut paper tubes. This pink elephant cake also can be used for other events. Pipe cowboy hats on the elephants for a Western-themed party, or cone-shaped hats for a 21st birthday. |
