New Products: breads, cookies and prebiotics

  • Pepperidge Farm, Norwalk, Conn., introduced a line of baked products for breakfast called Fruit & Grain breads and Fruit & Grain bagels. Each variety contains whole grains and chunks of real fruit, is low fat, a good source of fiber and calcium, cholesterol and trans fat-free, and certified by the American Heart Association. Bread flavors include cranberry orange, blueberry açai and apple pomegranate, and bagel flavors include cranberry blueberry and cherry pomegranate.

  • Feed Your Soul, Jersey City, N.J., a gourmet, all-natural cookie company, introduced five new cookie flavors in a new ecologically-friendly package design. Available in crispy chocolate chip, oatmeal chocolate chunk, chocolate chip mint, white chocolate snickerdoodle and nutty peanut butter, the all-natural, kosher cookies will be distributed by Gourmet Guru with key placement in Kings supermarkets.

  • Salem Baking Co., Winston-Salem, N.C., introduced new flavors to its Moravian cookie line, new seasonal options and an expanded line of chocolate-dipped Moravian cookies. Festive shapes for fall include spiced apple cider and maple brown sugar shaped as apples and maple leaves, respectively. Seasonal gift tins also are available filled with Moravian sugar cookies in festive shapes for Christmas, Valentine's Day and Easter. New flavors to the chocolate-dipped line include dark chocolate-dipped sugar and mint cookies, milk chocolate-dipped sugar cookies, holiday-shaped chocolate-dipped cookies and red, heart-shaped sugar cookies dipped in milk chocolate. Single-serve packages of Moravian cookies now are available in ginger spice, classic sugar, Meyer lemon, key lime and chocolate-dipped ginger spice flavors. Cheese biscuits now include Asiago sun-dried tomato pesto, Gorgonzola and Parmesan artichoke garlic flavors.

  • La Vita Health Foods, Sufferen, N.Y., introduced eight new prebiotic cookie varieties based on Old World classics: almond, chocolate chip, chocolate, strawberry, poppy seed, raspberry lemon, Cajun and peanut butter. The line also is sugar- and gluten-free, low fat, dairy-free and a good source of fiber. Each package contains two freshly sealed inserts each containing five 16-g cookies. Launched last month, they have a suggested retail price of $4.99 per package.
